About Baking Calculator

Learn about the Baking Calculator project, our editorial standards, culinary sources, and our commitment to commercial-free kitchen utility.

Our Mission & Purpose

Baking Calculator was created to address a frustrating problem in baking: inaccurate, contradictory, and bloated online conversion tools. Many food websites bury calculations under thousands of words of filler stories, display conflicting densities across different pages, or present unverified numbers as exact science.

Our goal is simple: provide a fast, clean, commercial-free suite of mathematical baking tools where the calculator appears above the fold, formulas are 100% transparent, and every single ingredient weight originates from an auditable, peer-reviewed source.

Who We Serve

This site is engineered for three distinct culinary audiences:

  • Home Bakers: Anyone translating an international recipe (converting European grams into US cups, or Australian 250ml metric cups into American volume).
  • Artisan Bread Makers: Sourdough and yeast bakers calculating true dough hydration percentages, levain inoculation, and flour-standard formulas.
  • Cottage Food Bakers & Small Bakeries: Micro-bakeries calculating ingredient food costs, wholesale markups, and retail profit margins.

How Our Calculators Are Built & Maintained

Unlike tools that rely on runtime database calls or third-party web scrapers, Baking Calculator is built on modern static web architecture:

  • Zero Runtime Dependencies: All calculators run locally inside your browser using vanilla TypeScript. No user data, ingredient amounts, or recipe notes are ever transmitted to a server.
  • Single Source of Truth: All densities, cup volume definitions, and mathematical constants live in an auditable code repository. If an ingredient weight changes, it updates sitewide simultaneously.
  • Automated Test Suite: Every calculation engine undergoes automated unit testing with Vitest before deployment, verifying round-trip conversion accuracy, boundary limits, and mathematical integrity.

What We Do NOT Claim

In accordance with our strict transparency policy, we are honest about what our software does and does not do:

  • We do not claim laboratory-grade precision for volumetric measures. Because kitchen variables like sifting, humidity, and packing affect bulk density, a volumetric cup cannot replace a calibrated digital scale.
  • We do not provide medical, clinical, or specialized dietary advice on our calorie tools.
  • We do not invent credentials, fake user reviews, or fabricated awards.

Editorial Identity
